Fitness Studio
East Bergholt is one of the few centres where you can pay as you go or choose other options. We don't have a membership fee and do not demand annual or direct debit payments.
To use the Fitness studio, you must be over 14 years and be willing to book a one-off induction (£17.50) which will ensure you know how to use the equipment and give you advice on how to achieve whatever your goals are e.g. to loose weight, lower bood pressure or just improve general fitness. Once you have completed your induction you will be given a voucher with 2 free workouts to get you going, then you decide whether to pay as you go or choose one of the other saver options.
We have instructors that have been trained to YMCA level 2 , 3 and 4 - all have a recognised certificate to instruct people with a disability and we have a GP consultant.
The Fitness studio opening times are the same as the Centre's but we do not admit people less than 1 hour before closing.
Please see our price list which has details of concessions and off peak prices.
Volunteers required - Gym Buddies
We are looking for special people who can help us with our inclusive fitness project. If you have time on your hands and would be interested in helping less able people to enjoy the benefits of exercise, please contact us. On Monday and Friday mornings our referral staff are kept busy with an increasing number of people who have been referred by the Hospital, local GP's or are self referred. We are looking for volunteers who would like to contribute their time to this worthwhile project under the supervision of qualified staff. East Bergholt Sports Centre is on a School site, therefore regular volunteers would be subject to background and CRB checks. Very little training is required for these simple tasks. This is an ideal opportunity to help other people to manage or improve their health in a session that has become quite social.
Please phone 01206 299340 or speak to our Duty Staff if you are interested.
Powerplate - There has been a lot of interest in the Power plate, if can help intensify the effect of exercises. The platform vibrates and causes the body to use involuntary muscles to stabilise the body's position. It is good for people who do not like exercise, it is good at building bone strength, core fitness and balance. It can be used by almost anyone - there are only a few exceptions, one of which is that young people under 16 years are not recommended to use it. The feedback from athletes and disabled people is very encouraging. To use the Power plate you do need to do a short induction to check that you are OK to use it and to make sure you know how to get the best out of using the Power plate. Please speak to the Duty Staff or instructor if you are interested.
